Camp Coronado 2013

We had so much fun on our Coronado "staycation"! We spent three and a half days relaxing, enjoying the beautiful views of the Coronado Bridge, the boats coming and going on the San Diego Bay, and downtown. The sun came out for us every midmorning, and we always ended up spending hours playing at the pool. Dee and Niki brought all kinds of fun things for the kids, and they were in heaven--it felt like a summer camp experience, but for the whole family! Both boys got to ride their scooters on the sidewalk along the bay, and Parker had an absolute blast swimming in the pool (and warming up in the hot tub). We got to enjoy long dinners every night with the whole group, which made for even more fun times for the cousins, who ranged in age from one and a half to almost twelve! We are so grateful to have had this wonderful vacation and "family reunion." I of course have tons of photos...these are just the ones from my phone :)

Coronado scenery...the full (?) moon rose right behind the bridge. I loved watching all of the boat traffic.

Scooters and the wagon made for lots of fun times and handy transportation to and fro.

Pool time! And lots of it. The water was too cold for Levi to be comfortable, but Parker didn't mind--he just headed for the hot tub whenever he got cold. It's so nice now that Parker is a good swimmer, not having to constantly worry about him around the water. And it's really fulfilling to see him feel comfortable in the pool and just having fun.

Possibly the highlight of the entire vacation for Parker was the poolside competition that he and Alex entered as a team--they named themselves the "Black Dragons." The competition was called "Minute to Win It"--they had to complete challenges in under a minute to move to the next round. For example, they had to put vaseline on their noses, stick their faces in cotton balls, and then shake the cotton balls off into a bucket. Or, they had to put an Oreo cookie on their foreheads and then try to move it down to their mouths without using their hands. They competed against a team of two girls about their age, and after the contest they all made friends and played in the pool. I was so surprised that Parker agreed to do this competition, but he was so excited and genuinely had so much fun. At the end, all of the kids won a "gold medal" and a free strawberry smoothie from the bar--which Parker thought was about the coolest thing in the world.

Family fun times! From L to R: Parker trying to make Levi smile; Lanea being silly at dinner; Parker in the hoodie that Alex was so excited to hand down to him; Mommy smooching on Levi; Mommy trying to get a photo with Levi; Levi, Mimi, and Parker with the beautiful skyline and harbor in the background; Mommy making Parker take a picture with her; Parker having fun with the finger lasers that Mimi brought for the kids (he and Levi would close themselves in the dark hotel bathroom and have dance parties with them); and Clint and Dusti's son, Darby, trying to steal Levi's toys from him ;) Darby is about a year younger than Levi.

Open House

Tonight was Open House at Parker's school. I know his teacher and his classmates have been working hard to prepare their classroom for this night, and it was fun to see Parker finally experience what all the preparations were all about--I'm not sure if he knew what to expect. Their room looked great--so nice and neat!--and there was lots of artwork up on all of the walls. It took me a while to realize that the banner his teacher made said the "Class of 2025"--that's a hard one to process!!! Parker also got to show me and then take home a stack of all of his most special work from the whole year. It's especially fun to see the improvement in his writing since the beginning of the year. He was really excited to have his special envelope of work, and was really proud of it. And I'm proud of him!

Showing me his schoolwork--at first he wanted to hold up each item and have me take a picture of it, but once I realized he was really doing to do it, I gave up :)

The kids planted lima beans and grass seeds...but not much has started sprouting yet. Hopefully by the end of the year!

'

Watercolor butterflies. For some reason I love how the bathroom signs are in so many of the shots I took--it just seems so representative of elementary school!

The kids recently had ponies come to school and go to go for pony rides out on the field.

Woo hoo! Parker is a member of the 100s club--which means he can count to 100!

A cool keepsake we got to take home--Parker's writing under the photo says, "My shadow kind of looks like an X."

Holding his folder of Kindergarten work :)

Reading Rainbow

Parker read four books to Levi at bedtime tonight, all on his own and without any suggestion from me! They were all favorites, so he know them really well, but he was also definitely reading them. And Levi listened so patiently to each and every one! What a moment! :)

Little Scientist

Parker found a butterfly wing in the backyard today, and is checking it out with his microscope...

Driveway Skaters

Dig Right In

You'll notice that Levi is still in his "vacation" gear (minus the goggles, although those have been getting plenty of wear lately, too)...our trip to the "hotel" can't come a moment too soon for him! That outfit is getting pretty dirty :)

When Parker Turned Six...

I cleaned off one of the memory cards from our camera today, and found these pictures from the morning of Parker's sixth birthday--I don't think I ever posted them?

With his presents--there's a new fishing pole in that long cardboard tube

With a cool new lure bag that he had picked out during a family trip to Bass Pro; Jared filled the pockets for him :)

Every boy needs a set of walkie-talkies! Too bad Levi hasn't figured out how to use them yet--he doesn't make for the best walkie partner yet ;)

I love this picture even though it's blurry--Parker looks so happy
