(Another) New Boat

Yes, we have added to our ever-expanding collection of things that float. Jared has had his eye out for a Montgomery 12 ever since we sold our 15, and lucked upon one for sale in Dana Point. It is a 1971 (as yet unnamed), and is hull #3...pretty cool. It feels spacious compared to the 8-foot Sabot we were loading the four of us into this summer for little adventures around the harbor, and so far we're really enjoying it.
Here we are pulled up on a beach in Mission Bay last weekend, within walking distance of a great sandwich shop where we picked up lunch. The sail to this spot from where we launched was straight upwind, and the day was pretty breezy, which made for a very wet and somewhat squirrly sail--luckily, this also means that our trip back to the dock after lunch was nearly all downwind, which conversely made for a very pleasant journey :)
Halfway There

I completed the other half of this star today, and should have the two sides sewn together tomorrow. I've been thinking about and working on this project for a long time...after initially planning on making this into a queen-sized quilt for our bed, I felt overwhelmed by the work and decided to just make this single large block and use it for a wall hanging in the living room, figuring that that way I could actually finish the project and enjoy it every day. But now that I'm finally seeing the end in sight, I feel newly able to keep going and building on this block to make a bigger quilt...we'll see where this goes.
And More Jumping!

The beach has been so much fun this summer. The boys are super active the whole time we are there, just running and jumping and playing in the sand and water and entertaining themselves (and each other). It feels like such a healthy way to pass the time...
Jumping!

We have been spending a little more time at the pool lately now that Grammy and Grampa were back in town. It's been great for Parker to re-visit his swimming skills from last summer, and Levi is finally getting into the water too! He will only jump to Daddy (Mommy made the mistake of letting him go under a couple of times, and is no longer on the "trust" list when it comes to the pool), but once he gets in he is ecstatic and wants to jump over and over.
Self Portrait

I feel like tis is Levi's first "real" drawing, which he made in the sand at the beach this weekend. He told us that it's him, with a happy face--can you see it? It's really there!

Batiquitos Lagoon
This is my favorite place (close to home) to go jogging (I know, don't laugh). We recently figured out that I can go jogging on the trail there while Jared and the boys take a short walk to a nearby fishing spot and be well entertained at the same time. I took the time to snap a few quick photos on our last trip, and I'm happy that I feel like they capture some of the feeling that makes me really enjoy this spot. Some day, though, I want to try some honest to goodness trail running, somewhere out in "real" nature ;)

One Happy Boy

Parker recently returned home from Mimi's house toting a bag stuffed full of goodies from Cousin Alex. He was absolutely beaming as he ran toward me to show me his surprise--bunches and bunches of Club Penguin stuffies. Parker has been super into this whole Club Penguin world for a little while now, something that I previously had no idea about. It's a whole multi-media kids' merchandising empire, with books, an online game, toys, etc., etc. Parker had been especially yearning for a stuffed penguin or puffle (don't ask), going so far as to browse for them on Amazon and enlisting me to sew him his own red puffle. So, he was absolutely thrilled to suddenly be the proud owner of a whole fleet of stuffed penguins and puffles--so much so, in fact that he lined them all up one day and requested that I take his picture with them. They often come with us when we go places, and he still sleeps with all of them every night. Thank you, Alex!!!
