Storm's Aftermath
Like most of San Diego (and Southern California), we had our very own news-worthy flooding event just down the street...this is the road that goes across the lagoon from our home in South Oceanside to my parents' place in Carlsbad. Of course, there's a car stuck in the middle of the water, and there's a police diver in a wet suit headed out to it...wouldn't be a true storm without both of those things in the middle of a flooded street!

Dance-a-Thon
The glow sticks that we brought on the camping trip for Parker were a huge hit! We have promised ourselves that these must become a regular part of all night-time family/kid events. On this particular night, he had spent most of the evening after dinner dancing like a crazy person on the beach; by the time it was dark, we made him a "glow stick suit" that looked awesome (although I think it still needs about 50 more glow sticks added to it)! Parker definitely prefers crazy, noisy, fast music--so we found him the perfect song to do his glow stick dance to...I was seriously laughing hysterically by the second song--it brought tears. Needless to say, he was absolutely exhausted by bedtime.

Picasso's Couch
Jared and I were shocked last night (after Parker was already asleep in bed) to discover that Parker had scribbled all over our couch with a ball point pen! Apparently this happened while I was in the kitchen making dinner. We pulled the pillows and backrest cushions off the couch to discover drawings on both arms of the couch and all along the back. It was truly shocking--while I know that this is something really typical for kids to do, Parker has never done anything like this before, and I kind of thought he was beyond this stage now at 3 1/2. He also usually seems like a fairly smart and reasonable kid, so I was surprised that he would do something so obviously wrong. But, as Jared said, this is just the beginning of us asking our kid, "WHAT were you thinking?!" and "You know better than to do that!" I'm sure we'll be saying those things to him for many more years to come...
In the meantime, we're working on trying to wash the pen off the couch...not much luck so far.
