R.I.P. Nanny
Well, Nanny passed on to the great fish bowl in the sky today...she was with us for exactly two weeks. We had been noticing some strange behavior from her lately, and then *poof* she was a goner. Parker's reaction to her death was interesting...to an untrained eye he didn't seem to react much at all. It was actually very characteristic of him. He seems to suppress his emotions somewhat, or at least to not want to make a big deal out of his feelings or for us to make a big deal about things. For example, he almost never admits when he is hurt, even if he is clearly injured and/or crying--he will just deny, deny, deny, and hates for us to draw any attention to the fact that he is hurt or upset. So, he may have seemed to not react much to Nanny's death, but I do think he was a little upset by it. He wouldn't come out to the garden to bury her with me...I thought flushing her was a little too heartless, so I dug a hole for her in the front garden next to a flapjack, and put some painted stones over her final resting place...hey, she'll be good for the plants.

Daddy Night
Tonight was daddy night at Parkers preschool. He showed me his class, his playground and I met his teachers. It was a little hectic sharing the small room with 60 other dads and kids but it was nice to see where Parker spends his time and I will relate better to his school stories.

His Many Colored Days
Parker's class has been "celebrating colors" at school for the last couple of weeks. As part of the "celebration," the kids can wear or bring something to share that is the color of the day. The top picture shows Parker wearing his Bass Pro Shops hat for Green Day; he wore his shirt that Daddy got him from the Great Wall of China today for Orange Day. Parker's teacher put up a list of all the kids' favorite colors; Parker usually does say that black is his favorite color, so I was proud of him for sharing his true feelings in class! Cute.
(p.s. I didn't realize that Parker was feeling really sick at the time that I took the Orange photo of him today, thus the strange look on his face. By the time I got him home from school, I realized that he had a fever and was feeling pretty miserable. He fell asleep on the couch within minutes of arriving home, and has been hot and flushed all day. He is finding the energy for his typical night-time crazies right now, but I have a feeling he's not really better yet...poor guy.)

Introducing...Rocky and Nanny
While mommy was having her special "ladies weekend" with Mel and Em, Jared and Parker brought home two new pets! We have added "Rocky" and "Nanny" (no, I have no idea where that name came from...) to our family, two fishies! These are Parker's first pets.
